About Social Care

We aim to help all sorts of people, whether it's continuing to live independently, providing security for those who need care or support, or enabling individuals to achieve their potential. Like you, they want as few barriers as possible and to have a choice. They also want us to keep finding new and better ways to support them and live the lives they want.

So that's what we're doing. Putting them in control.

Adults' Services helps 16,500 older people and adults with mental or physical disabilities lead independent and fulfilling lives. The number of adults wanting assistance to remain independent is increasing, along with their expectations of the range of services we offer. There is a real need to create more opportunities to support and care for adults with long term conditions in within their own homes, rather than in a hospital or in residential care, so this year, we're running the national pilot for a new approach to adult social care, Self Directed Support, giving vulnerable people real choice and control over the services they receive enabling them to stay living at home.

Children and Young People's Services aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy life and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being to best equip them for adult life. Thanks to the Early Childhood Service initiative, six new children's centres have been planned, and families in West Sussex will benefit from £10m for up to another 30 children's centres. The County Council, the Children's Trust and other partners are working together to ensure that West Sussex will be a place where all children and young people have the opportunity to enjoy healthy and safe lives as confident, high achieving learners and valued contributors in their communities.

It's all change, all new.
