Structure of Kent County Council
The organisation is led by the Chief Executive, Peter Gilroy, and divided into five Directorates:

Kent Adult Social Services
The overall aim of Kent Adult Social Services is to help the people of Kent to live safely and independently in their local communities. The service helps around 19,000 older people to live at home and supports 5,000 older people in residential and nursing care.
The Directorate provides care packages to 36,000 adult clients in any one year, including older people and adults with physical disability, learning disability, sensory impairment or mental health needs.
Children, Families & Education
This directorate provides education and social care services to Kent’s children, young people, their families and communities.
In Kent’s successful communities, achievement exceeds aspiration, diversity is valued and every child and family is supported. The directorate delivers services to ensure children and young people are:
- Nurtured and encouraged at home
- Inspired and motivated by school
- Safe and secure in the community
- Living healthy and fulfilled lives
Environment & Regeneration
Provides strategic planning expertise on the development of Kent’s infrastructure including the local economy, waste disposal, highways and transportation. Other services include Land Use planning, Environmental Management and Kent Highway Services.
Communities
The Directorate is responsible for a wide range of vital services: Libraries and Archives, Youth, KEY Training, Sports Development, Cultural Development, Turner Contemporary, Kent Volunteers, Adult Education, Community Safety, Trading Standards, Registration and Coroners, Emergency Planning, Kent Scientific Services, the Youth Offending Service, Contact Centre and the Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
The Communities portfolio reflects KCC’s focus on working more closely with Kent’s communities. The aims are to build stronger and safer communities, promote life long learning and provide a range of services that contribute significantly to the quality of life of people of all ages across the county.
Chief Executive’s Department
Provides services and support to all KCC directorates including Corporate Communication, Property Management, Finance, IT, Commercial Services and Personnel and Development, as well as the corporate policy and performance management functions and support to democratic processes.
