Equality and Diversity
The diversity of the borough
The borough as a whole is one of sharp contrasts with affluent, leafy suburbs, as well as pockets of considerable deprivation and inner city problems. Barnet is the 20th most ethnically diverse and the 2nd most religiously diverse authority in England.
This means a wide range of ethnic and cultural groups are represented among Barnet’s population, including black Africans, Indians, Greek and Turkish Cypriots. In addition there is a very large Chinese and Jewish population – 25% of the Jewish population in the whole country can be found in Barnet. Equalities and diversity are at the heart of what we do.
Addressing the needs of the community
Within Adult Social Services you will be given the tools and support to make sure that your practice reflects this in line with the choice, inclusion and rights agenda. As a modern and ambitious authority we have set ourselves challenging targets to ensure that our workforce reflects the diversity of the Borough. This work is supported by flourishing staff groups such as the All Visible Minority Ethnic Group which provides information, support and mentoring opportunities to staff from black and minority ethnic groups working in the Borough.
