Salary: Grade 12
The salary range for the post is £39,621 – £45,807 plus discretionary payment of 7.5% pa and Productivity payment 5% (both paid subject to performance and subject to annual review). The post is currently designated “hard to fill” which gives access to other cash-equivalent benefits of up to £2257 per annum.
Increments to top of scale are payable annually subject to performance appraisal.
Hours
The normal working week is 36 hours between Monday and Friday. The post holder is expected to undertake additional hours as and when required to ensure service delivery. Legal Services has a strong record in work-life balance arrangements in accordance with the Council’s procedures on work-life balance – such as part-time working, job-sharing and other arrangements. If you are interested in this, we would ask you to indicate this when you apply.
Leave
Annual leave entitlement is 28 days. In addition, the post-holder will be entitled to other statutory holidays.
Notice
The post will be subject to 3 months notice on either side.
Medical
The appointment is subject to medical fitness assessed by the Council Medical Adviser, initially by questionnaire.
Pension
The post is superannuable under the Local Government Pension Scheme, which is a final salary scheme. However, membership is not compulsory. The successful candidate will have a choice on whether to join that scheme or to contribute to the State Earnings Relation Pensions Scheme or to make his/her own arrangements. Further details will be supplied on appointment.
Other Duties
The post-holder may be required to undertake other duties that fall within the scope and grade of the job on behalf of the Council and in those circumstances would be required to undertake them within the existing terms and conditions of service of the post.
Miscellaneous
A no smoking policy is in operation in all Council buildings.
Relocation and removal expenses
The payment of relocation and removal expenses may be considered for posts designated as “hard to fill”, where a national shortage exists for the specific occupation. Departmental chief officers determine eligibility for this scheme.
Work Life Balance
We recognise that people work best when they have a satisfactory balance between their paid work and the rest of their lives. With this in mind Southwark has introduced a series of procedures that support work life balance. The options include home working, career break, term time working, secondment, annualised hours and a compressed working week.
