Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming our new Chief Executive. On this website you will find details of the role, the South Lakeland area and our hopes for the future.
We are all facing unprecedented change in the delivery of local services. I am clear that South Lakeland District Council has a key role to play in the modernisation of local public services in Cumbria and in the delivery of shared and improved services across the region. We are fortunate to have some of the best countryside in the UK on our doorstep and we are all rightly proud of our District and role as community leaders. But we have our issues too.
Affordable housing and engaging with some of our isolated communities are real issues here. We are looking for a Chief Executive who can reach out to all of our communities, as well as parishes, neighbouring Districts, the County and wider partners to ensure that we meet the future needs of our residents. We are committed to looking at things differently and to finding a Chief Executive who can work with Members to design and deliver services that will help our residents at a time of reduced spending. You will be a skilled communicator and negotiator who will act as the leader of change and improvement for the Council – both internally and externally.
Breaking down historical boundaries and finding new ways to do things will be key, as will your leadership skills and entrepreneurial flair. In return, we have vibrant market towns, great schools, a high quality of life and miles of National Park for you to enjoy. Our new leadership team is driven and focused on delivery and our staff are behind the changes that will need to be made. We are all committed to making things happen.
