Appointments will be subject to the appropriate national conditions of service as supplemented by our local policies and procedures.
Salary: All jobs are graded using the Hay Job Evaluation method within the local scheme of pay and conditions. Advancement within the salary range will be incremental progression paid on 01 April each year. However, employees with less than six months service in the grade by 01 April will be paid their first increment six months after their appointment.
Hours of work: 37 hours per week. A flexible working hours scheme is in operation.
Annual leave entitlement: 24 days (27 days after 5 years' service) plus bank holidays and four extra statutory days (one of which is fixed at Christmas).
Notice period: 2 months for Lead Officer posts, 1 month for Growth Co-ordinator and Economic Development Officer
Other benefits: Casual user car allowance, payment of one professional subscription per annum, childcare vouchers, subsidised staff restaurant, subsidised corporate leisure membership, opportunity to access many BUPA healthcare and insurance benefits on preferential rates.
Other terms: Some of our posts are politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. This means that you must not be actively engaged in politics while employed by the Council.
Pension: There is a Local Government Pension Scheme available to all employees. Employee contributions are proportionally banded with the highest rate being 7.2 percent of the pay received for contractual hours.
Sickness Absence: A sickness pay scheme is in operation.
Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Provisions: Details of maternity and other childcare provisions are available from Human Resources.
Relocation Assistance: Newly recruited employees may be eligible to claim relocation costs associated with moving house. Daily travel allowance may be available for those employees who do not wish to relocate but live more than 20 miles away from their normal place of work.
Probation Period: New employees will be subject to satisfactory completion of a six-month probation period unless they already have six months uninterrupted local government service at the start of their employment with us.
Medical Clearance: All appointments are subject to medical clearance.
No Smoking Policy: The Council operates a No Smoking Policy.
Canvassing: The Local Government and Housing Act 1989 requires us to state that canvassing will disqualify candidates. This does not prevent candidates making reasonable enquiries about job content or conditions of service.
