We have a big task ahead of us at South Northamptonshire Council. As a council we perform well, our financial position is sound - the challenge is to raise our game, fulfil our ambitions and deliver our priorities.
The task is driven by our vision for the district and being part of the Milton Keynes/South Midlands growth area. We have significant residential and economic growth proposed and we’re determined to deliver this in a way which enhances the area, addresses our infrastructure needs and ensures we create prosperous and sustainable communities whilst preserving what is special about South Northamptonshire.
We’re being realistic. Achieving large scale change requires expansion of our team, so the Council is investing in a range of new posts within the policy field.. Our new structure is built around the principles of collaboration and team working – both within the Council and further afield. This is a tremendous strength provided we recruit people with proven ability, who are serious about being team players – people who gain energy and momentum from working purposefully with others.
South Northamptonshire is a great place to live and work – delightfully rural, yet our central location and excellent transport links support the highest employment and the third highest percentage population growth rates in the country. We’re a natural site for industries featuring household names such as Honda, Bronnley and Radstone Technology, which combine high–tech excellence with a world class reputation for research and development.
We have the opportunity to create a new, fit for purpose authority for our local residents and businesses. We are keen to reach out to the communities we serve to identify how we can make public services more effective, whilst ensuring exceptional value for money.
The scale of the challenge cannot be delivered by us alone. We need to identify opportunities to align objectives and share resources with our partners. Working in a partnership context takes time, commitment and capacity - our expanded Policy team will play an active role in ensuring existing partnerships are sustained and new opportunities are established and developed effectively.
